Moon eclipses Jupiter - December 7, 2004

Moon eclipses Jupiter, visible across eastern two-thirds of North America. Western & Central states last saw it on 10/19/1968. 2:52am, 2:56am  

Jupiter almost behind the Moon

LX200 10" @ f/6.3 not aligned due to short exposures.
Temperature in the 40s.

Minolta Maxxum 5000i at prime focus, 400ASA film, manual shutter release. Scanned with minor adjustments.

The Moon starts to brighten as it moves past the Earth's shadow

11:30pm, 11:40pm, 11:45pm

As the Moon rose higher, the camera body was almost touching the scope mount. Centering the Moon started becoming difficult.

11:55pm, 12:00am a brightening Moon

Minolta Maxxum 5000i at prime focus using 400ASA film. All photos, except totality were taken in automatic mode. Totality shots at 4 secs. Photos scanned at 600dpi with autobalance processing.
