Planetary Nebula Gallery 1996 - 2001

As we lead our daily lives, our planet Earth rotates around our Sun cradled within the Milky Way galaxy we belong to. Nightly, amateur astronomers around the world peer into the sky with their telescopes and CCD cameras.

We encounter a type of emission nebula consisting of expanding, glowing shell of ionized gas ejected from red giant stars late in their lives, they are called Planetary nebula which are just fascinating to themselves.

These are the many deep-sky planetary nebulas that I have seen and imaged from the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, so far...

M27, M57, M97, NGC 1535, NGC 2438, NGC 7662

Hydrogen gas comes from the center faint blue star
at mag 13.5
1st image taken with Starlight Xpress MX5-C
out of focus and color saturation is a bit off
Large planetary, low surface brightness, MX5-C image in mono, note the central star. Right image.
Nebula ring with a central star, also called Cleopatra's Eye
Appears to be part of M46 (NGC 2437) open cluster which is actually 5,400 light-years away
